Dana (Donation) Workshops for Anahata International

Yin Yoga Workshop

Saturday, 8/21/2010

Yoga Chai

11:00 am - 1:00 pm

suggested donation: $20

Yin yoga provides the perfect balance to your active (yang) yoga practice.  Yin utilizes long-held floor poses, meditation and breath work to target the connective tissues of the body—the ligaments, tendons and cartilage.  Working on these connective tissues can help to increase flexibility and decrease stagnant energy in the body.  Years of a dedicated asana practice will make anyone healthier, stronger, and more flexible, but at some point the muscles will have reached their limit of flexibility. New depths in postures, deeper ranges of motion, or an increased flow of energy may only be achievable by focusing on the deeper tissues of the body.  This deep practice is gentle, yet intense, helping students not only to open the body, but also to cultivate the ability to observe the body and the mind and stay with sensation.

This is a donation class. All proceeds will go towards Megan's project to develop an adaptive yoga manual and teacher training for Anahata International teachers on the ground in Rwanda. Please bring cash/check. We recommend $20 but any amount is welcome!  No pre-registration required.

When the Effortful Effort Becomes Effortless: A Labor Day Workshop
Monday, 9/6/2010
Flow Yoga Center
10 am - noon
suggested donation: $25

In this workshop we will do 60 minutes of active vinyasa and pranayama and 30 minutes of restorative poses followed by a 30 minute yoga nidra practice. In his discussion of pranayama in The Yoga Sutras, Patanjali outlines four modes: inhalation, exhalation, the inhalation-retention and exhalation-retention, and when the effortful effort becomes effortless through asana. When we begin our practice it is deliberate and requires much effort, but when we achieve mastery it becomes effortless.

In honor of Labor Day, which is a day of rest, we will explore how we can bring more effortlessness into our asana and pranayama practices through principles of alignment in the physical and energetic body.

Appropriate for students comfortable in Flow 1 or Flow 2.

This is a donation class. All proceeds will go towards Megan's project to develop an adaptive yoga manual and teacher training for Anahata International teachers on the ground in Rwanda. Please bring cash/check. We recommend $25 but any amount is welcome!
